Silk screen printing is a method that involves printing ink through stencils that are supported by silk fabric mesh stretched across a frame called a screen. By coating the screen with ink using a sponge, you cause the ink to flow through the screen onto the t-shirt. For multi-colour designs, you do this multiple times, starting with the lightest colour and moving up to the darkest. Therefore, the number of colours on a t-shirt are limited. At Tusk T-Shirts we can print up to 5 different colours on an area about the size of an A3 page.
Screen printing is a good choice for simple and bold graphic designs, solid colours, and when you’re making many t-shirts of the same design at a time. After the t-shirts have been printed, they are ‘baked’ in an oven to set the ink, this gives it a high quality print and a long-lasting product.
We only print on cotton or poly-cotton fabrics, because they can stand the heat of the curing process.
